DO I NEED TO BE AN EXPERIENCED FISHER PERSON?

No experience is necessary! Kolk Sportfishing is equipped for all levels of ocean fishing expertise, from new to seasoned anglers and for all ages. Please let us know your level of experience and we will be sure to be as hands on, or off, as needed.

DO I NEED TO BRING MY OWN FISHING GEAR?

No. Kolk Sportfishing Adventures will provide all the fishing gear you require.  Our 27 foot Grady White boat is equipped with rods, reels, tackle, comfortable seating and an onboard washroom. You are required to get your fishing license.

DO I NEED A FISHING LICENCE?

Yes, every angler is required to have a Tidal Waters Fishing Licence for British Columbia. Your license may be purchased online or at any local fishing and tackle shop such as Campbell River's locally owned Rivers Sportsman.

ARE FOOD AND DRINK PROVIDED?

It's encouraged that you to bring your own food and drink so that you may bring what you like. If you would prefer that we purchase a lunch on your behalf, please be sure to ask us about your options at time of booking.

Alcoholic beverages are welcomed, but not provided. If you wish to have alcohol on board please purchase and bring your own. Please also note that glass-bottled beers/coolers and red wine are not permitted.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING FOR CLOTHING?

Over the summer months, Campbell River is quite pleasant. However, being the island, we are prone to rain. We suggest you keep an eye on the local weather forecast and pack accordingly. It always best to dress in layers as the morning can be a bit cool on the water but it tends to warm up through the day!

Items you may want to include are:

  • Warm pants

  • Warm sweater

  • Long sleeve and short sleeve shirts

  • Warm Socks

  • Rain jacket

  • Shorts, Bikini, Tank Tops

  • Sunscreen

  • Sunglasses

  • Hat

WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY CATCH?

Anglers are permitted to either catch and release or keep their catch within their daily/personal limit. Please note that current changes to the chinook fishery implemented by the DFO and Minster Bernadette Jordan require anglers to catch and release all chinook salmon prior to July 15, 2020.

If you wish to keep your catch when permitted, please note there are restrictions. For instance, you may keep up to one legal-size Chinook Salmon per day, per person, and two Chinook Salmon total per person, if your trip is longer than one day from July 15 through August 31.  For more information on limits and restrictions ask your Captain or visit Fisheries and Oceans Canada Website

We recommend that you have your catch professionally processed if you wish to keep your limit. This can be done right in Campbell River, and depending on what you are having done may be done before you head home. We recommend High Tide Seafoods for most processing, filleting, smoking and flash freezing and St. Jeans for any canning and smoking.

If you are travelling home on a commercial airline you will need to purchase an approved styrofoam cooler with a wax cardboard box to put it in, available here in town. Be sure you know the rules and regulations regarding bringing fish on to your flight and across international borders. You must declare your catch on any customs and immigration forms.

IS THERE A MINIMUM BOOKING TIME?

Yes, Kolk Sportfishing asks that you book a minimum of 5 hours. However, for the best experience, we recommend 8 hours.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELATION POLICY?
